We'll need to watch for a better storm chance today, especially west of I-75. Dew points are higher, bringing a bit more moisture to the area. Showers look to increase after 1PM, and rain will be possible this evening especially for those near Marion and Franklin counties through 8PM tonight. Storms today would bring downpours too. Currently thinking up to an 1" will be possible this evening for folks from Marion County and west, including those out of northeast Alabama. It will be another hot one too, as heat index values should reach 96 today.
As Florence is set to make landfall sometime Friday, this will bring a north wind at upper levels to the TN Valley. This should limit our rain chances Friday through Saturday, bringing a mostly sunny sky, but still hot in the upper 80s Friday and Saturday. Sunday, clouds will likely be increasing during the day. This should bring temperatures down a few degrees to the mid to low 80s. Rain chances look to increase Sunday night into Monday. The best chance for gusty winds 20-30 mph, up to 40 mph will be those in the highest elevations including Lookout Mountain and the Blue Ridge regions. Lowest elevations, like those in the valleys look to get less wind at this time. The start of the work week will bring near-normal temperatures in the middle 80s Monday.
Tuesday will bring a rain chance, but it will be due to a combination of moisture from Florence and a weak cold front. A preliminary look to the end of next week looks hot with temperatures in the 90s again returning Thursday.
