Good Wednesday. As category 4 Hurricane Michael pounds the Florida Panhandle we will see some light sprinkles here in the Tennessee Valley this morning with temps in the low 70s. This afternoon, after a high of 81, a cold front to our west and Michael moving up from the south will combine to bring us more widespread rain with a few thunderstorms tonight through Thursday morning.
I would expect rainfall amounts to range from 1.5" to 2.5" through Thursday morning. Winds will be increasing through the day. Tonight into Thursday morning expect north winds from 10-20 mph in the Valley with 20-30 mph winds possible in the Blue Ridge Mtns.
Thursday afternoon the front will steer Michael up the east coast, bringing tropical storm conditions as far north as the Carolinas. It may still be a little breezy Thursday afternoon, but overall it will be cool and dry with highs in the mid 70s.
Friday the cooler air will be firmly in place. We will start with lows in the mid to upper 40s. The high Friday will be in the upper 60s!
The weekend will be cool and dry also with lows in the upper 40s and low 50s and highs in the low 70s.
I expect the cool fall weather to stay with us through next week. After Thursday the only chance for a shower will be with another passing front on Monday.
