It will be an overcast day with southeast winds under 10 mph. Tropical moisture from Hurricane Michael will continue to spread towards the Tennessee Valley. Drizzle looks possible during the day, with rain increasing by evening, especially for those east of I-75. It's the last day of the humidity and warmth as temperatures creep to 80 by afternoon.
The rain increases tonight, and rumbles of thunder can't be ruled out. Heavy rain will be possible at this time, while a cold front looks to be moving through fairly quickly. It's likely most will pick up 1" to 2" total. Those near Fannin, Gilmer, GA and Cherokee , NC could see locally higher amounts of 2" to 3" by Thursday afternoon.
Winds will be increasing tonight over north Georgia in the Tennessee Valley where wind gusts of 30 mph look possible as Michael tracks across south Georgia. By Thursday morning wind gusts of 20-30 mph looks likely. Those higher up on the ridges and plateaus could get locally higher wind gusts of 40 mph. Prepare for trash cans and leaves to be displaced. The strong cold front moves through by 7AM Thursday morning, so it's possible the high temperature will occur right around sunrise in the mid-70s. It will depend if we can rebound in the afternoon with sunshine.
Get ready for fall weather! The cool, crisp fall weather we've been waiting for arrives on Thursday evening and looks to stay with us this weekend, and finally into next week.
